getting a "clean ink stains" message. What do I do?

HP Recommended
HP Deskjet F4480

I recently had to have the hard drive to our iMac replaced.  Up until then, the printer had been working.  Once I got it back, it won't print.  I was getting a message of corrupted or parts of file missing, which probably happened in the transfer of data to the new hard drive.

I have down loaded what I believe is supposed to be the most up to date software for this printer.  Now I am getting a "clean ink stains" message.

I have pulled out the ink cartridges and put them back in, I have unplugged the power from the back of the unit then the wall and waited for 60 seconds.  But I am still getting the clean  ink stains message.

What do I do?

I reviewed your post and I understand that you are getting clean ink stains error on the printer.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

Are you able to make a copy? If yes, then follow the below steps.

1.) Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.

2.) Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, If your printer is listed, click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer.

3.) If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button at the bottom of the list.

4.) Click the plus sign click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name.

NOTE: Make sure that the printer Kind is Bonjour or Bonjour Multifunction, or USB.

5.) Click the Use or Print Using menu, select AirPrint in the pop-up menu. Then click Add. Select AirPrint from the Use menu

6.) Try to print.

In case if you are unable to make a copy, then follow the steps in the below article and update the printer firmware.

I tried what you suggested, and I am still getting the same message when I try to print.  "clean ink stains from printer", also along with that it reads, "Printing - can't open"/private/var/spool/cups/tmp/00b1fa5803c."

Some where along the way I saw that I am running on macOS Catalina 10.15.7

Let us try these steps:

Try making a standalone copy and check if that works. By this, we can conclude if this is a hardware or a driver issue.

Re-install the printer:

1.) Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.

2.) Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, If your printer is listed, click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer.

3.) If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button at the bottom of the list.

Click here to download the printer driver from HP site.

Try printing.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
