Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

getting error 0xc 19a0042 on a photosmart wireless B109n.

Have turned off, on again. removed the power lead as well. replaced cartridges too, but no joy.

This all happened about the time we couldn't print because adobe flash wouldn't install.

Not help at all on the \\hp web site so far.

Hi @Simon25666

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The error 0xc19a0042 on your HP Photosmart B109n is related to the printer's ink system failure or issues with the ink cartridges or the printer’s ink mechanism. This error typically occurs when the printer is unable to recognize or use the ink cartridges properly, or there's a hardware issue with the ink system.

Since you've already tried turning it off and on and replacing the cartridges, here are a few other troubleshooting steps you can follow:

1. Check the Ink Cartridges and Contacts

  • Ensure the cartridges are installed correctly: Remove the ink cartridges, make sure they’re seated properly in their respective slots, and then reinsert them.
  • Clean the contacts: Sometimes, ink residue or dust can block the communication between the cartridges and the printer. Use a lint-free cloth or cotton swab to clean the metal contacts on both the cartridges and inside the printer where the cartridges sit.

2. Reset the Printer

  • Perform a hard reset:
    • Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord from both the printer and the power outlet.
    • Wait 2-3 minutes before plugging the printer back in.
    • Turn the printer on and see if the error message persists.

3. Perform a Printer Reset (Factory Reset)

If the problem continues, performing a factory reset may help to clear any errors.

  • To reset your Photosmart B109n, follow these steps:
    • Turn the printer off.
    • Hold down the Power and Cancel buttons at the same time and turn the printer back on.
    • Continue holding the buttons for 20-30 seconds, then release them and let the printer reset itself.

4. Check for Firmware Update

It’s possible that the error could be linked to a firmware issue, especially since you mentioned it happened around the time Adobe Flash stopped installing. Ensure that your printer’s firmware is up to date:

  • Go to the HP support website and search for your printer’s model (HP Photosmart B109n).
  • Look for any available firmware updates and install them if necessary.

I hope this helps.
