Hi @SIMSBALDWIN,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are trying to clean the ink ports on the ink carriage of your HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 E-All-In-One Printer, follow these steps:

Supplies Needed

  • Lint-free cloth or paper towels
  • Distilled water
  • Cotton swabs (optional)
  • Gloves (optional, to avoid ink stains)

Steps

Turn Off and Unplug the Printer:

  • Ensure the printer is turned off and unplugged from the power source to avoid any electrical hazards.

Open the Printer:

  • Open the printer's top cover or access door to expose the ink cartridges and ink carriage. The ink carriage should move to the center for easy access.

Remove the Ink Cartridges:

  • Gently press down on the ink cartridges and remove them from their slots. Place them on a clean, dry surface, and cover them with a clean cloth to prevent drying out.

Locate the Ink Ports:

  • The ink ports are the small nozzles where the ink cartridges make contact with the ink carriage. They are usually located on the carriage itself.

Clean the Ink Ports:

  • With a Lint-Free Cloth: Dampen a lint-free cloth with a small amount of distilled water. Gently wipe around the ink ports on the ink carriage to remove any ink residue or debris. Be careful not to let any water drip inside the printer.
  • With Cotton Swabs (Optional): You can also use cotton swabs dampened with distilled water to clean the ink ports. Be gentle to avoid leaving any fibers behind or pushing debris further into the ports.

Dry the Area:

  • Use a dry lint-free cloth or paper towel to gently pat the area dry. Make sure there is no moisture left before proceeding.

Reinstall the Ink Cartridges:

  • Reinsert the ink cartridges into their respective slots. Ensure they are securely seated.

Close the Printer:

  • Close the printer’s top cover or access door.

Plug In and Power On:

  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on. Allow the printer to go through its startup process.

Run a Printer Test:

  • Once the printer is on, you may want to run a test print or alignment process to ensure everything is working correctly.

Thank you for your suggestion.  I tried it but unfortunately it did not help.  I decided to buy a new printer instead.
