HP OfficeJet Pro 8025 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My Officejet 8025 is stuck on a screen indicating there's an error with one of my print cartridges. There's a question mark and no other options so I can't access the menu. I tried resetting by removing the cartridges, holding the power button for 15 seconds and removing plug from outlet for well over a minute.  Also, tried just unplugging without holding power button. Also, tried doing this with print cartridges removed (pressing power button first and just unplugging).  Every time I'm brought back to the cartridge error screen with no options to get away from that screen. Help!

If it's possible for me to do a hard reset, do I need to uninstall from my laptop & phone and do a fresh install?

Thank you very much.

Hi @SharV50,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8025 is stuck on the cartridge error screen despite your troubleshooting, here are a few additional steps you can try.

Check Cartridges:

  • Ensure that the cartridges are properly seated and that there are no protective tape strips still attached.
  • Inspect the cartridges for any damage or defects.

Clean Cartridge Contacts:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Remove the cartridges and gently clean the gold contacts on the cartridges and in the printer with a lint-free cloth.

Power Cycle:

  • With the printer turned off, unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait at least 2 minutes.
  • Plug it back in, turn it on, and see if the error persists.

Firmware Update:

  • If you manage to access the printer menu later, check for any available firmware updates via the HP Smart app or the HP website.

Hard Reset:

  • If the issue remains, perform a hard reset:
    • Unplug the printer.
    • Hold the power button for 30 seconds.
    • While holding the button, plug the printer back in.
    • Release the button after 30 seconds and wait for the printer to initialize.

If these steps don’t resolve the issue and the printer remains stuck, you may need to uninstall and reinstall the printer on your laptop and phone as a final measure. This process won’t necessarily resolve the cartridge error, but it can ensure that the software is properly set up if you manage to get the printer working again.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
