Hi @darrellgene,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your DeskJet 2827e is showing an E0 error with refilled cartridges. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Check if the cartridges are HP Instant Ink or standard
• Refilled Instant Ink cartridges will never work once the subscription is inactive.
• Only standard HP 67/67XL (non-Instant Ink) cartridges can be refilled and reused.

Clean the electrical contacts
• Remove the cartridges and wipe the copper contacts with a dry, lint-free cloth.
• Clean the matching contacts inside the printer.

Make sure the vent is open
• On top of the cartridge, ensure the vent isn’t clogged or covered by tape.
• If there’s a sticker over the vent, remove it.

Reseat the cartridges firmly
• Insert the cartridges one at a time until you hear a click.
• A loose fit can trigger the E0 status-light pattern.

Restart the printer
• With the printer ON, unplug it from the wall for 15 seconds.
• Plug it back in to reset the ink system.

Try a different refilled or new standard cartridge
• If the cartridge chip is damaged during refilling, the printer will not read it.
• Swapping helps confirm whether the issue is with the cartridge or the printer.

Check HP Smart for the exact error
• Open HP Smart → Printer Status.
• It may show “Cartridge Problem,” “Incompatible Cartridge,” or “Older Generation Cartridge,” which helps identify if the chip is faulty.

I hope this helps.
