Hi,

Trying to use Non HP Ink in my printer. Very frustrated that it is not allowed. Especially when it keep getting more and more expensive and I sure they are putting less ink in them. I have an HP OfficeJet pro 6978 printer.

I would appreciate any help. I have searched other  questions but non have the same printer type.

I did turn off cartridge protection and it did not help.

not sure how to change firmware, Softwear is up to date.

Thank you

Hi @Suez304,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

 I'd like to help!

You may refill your cartridges or use remanufactured cartridges, but you may run into problems. HP will not guarantee the functionality of those ink cartridges.

There are many cartridges in the market which is refilled and sometimes the chip is not configured to work with the printer. You need to contact the cartridge manufacturer and find out why its not working. Try a different cartridge supplier and check if that works.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

That is not an answer my question. I want to use non HP ink. I turned off cartridge protection and it still will not let me use generic ink. I know there is a way around it but it seems like finding out how to do it is a big secret. It is not fair to force the customer to use hp ink. That should be our choice.

very disappointed. I will never buy an HP product again
