Hi @raera,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you're seeing a dash or any error indicator on the color cartridge of your HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 2336 All-in-One Printer after refilling or changing it to another empty one, it could be due to several reasons. Here are some potential causes and solutions:z
1. Incorrect Cartridge Installation:
- Solution: Ensure the cartridge is properly seated in the printer. Open the cartridge access door, remove the cartridge, and then reinsert it. Make sure it clicks into place securely.
2. Cartridge Not Recognized:
- Solution: Sometimes the printer may not recognize a refilled or empty cartridge. Try removing the cartridge, turning off the printer for a few minutes, and then reinstalling the cartridge.
3. Cartridge Chip Issues:
- Refilling cartridges can sometimes lead to issues with the cartridge chip not being properly reset.
- Solution: Use cartridges that have been correctly reset or consider using a new HP original cartridge.
4. Blocked Ink Nozzles or Air Bubbles:
- If the ink cartridge has been refilled, there may be air bubbles or dried ink blocking the nozzles.
- Solution: Run a printhead cleaning cycle from the printer’s maintenance menu. This will help clear any clogs in the nozzles.
5. Printer Firmware Update: Update the firmware on an HP printer
- HP printers sometimes require firmware updates to work properly with cartridges.
- Solution: Check for any firmware updates for your printer model and install them if available.
6. Incorrect Cartridge Type:
- Make sure you are using the correct type of cartridge for your printer. Using a different model, even if it fits, can cause errors.
- Solution: Verify that the cartridge is the correct model for your HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 2336 printer.
7. Cartridge Contacts Need Cleaning:
- Dirty or obstructed contacts on the cartridge or printer carriage can cause recognition issues.
- Solution: Gently clean the electrical contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer with a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water.
8. Reset the Printer:
- Sometimes a simple reset can solve cartridge-related issues.
- Solution: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait about 60 seconds, and then plug it back in and turn it on.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
