HP ENVY Photo 6255 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

Installed my new cartridge and printer says it is not an ho instant ink cartridge but it is. Used the support page which suggested setting my printer to factory defaults and trying to reinstall.  I searched support page some more because after all of that the printer jow thinks that the cartridge is still invalid.  Found another suggestion to remove and reinstall the printer. Did that and hp smart can see see the printer and that printer is signed up for instant ink but it also says cartridge is invalid.  Found another suggestion to  make sure network information is correct and that web services are working and did both of those things - still no luck. Finally found a support number and called. The woman was very nice but her connection was awful and it was obvious she was home - I could hear her children in the background and she kept moving to another location within the her location but after 30 minutes of fighting trying to hear her i gave up - any suggestion would be greatly appreciated

Hi @mamasmending,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you've tried all the usual troubleshooting steps for resolving issues with an Instant Ink cartridge. Here are a few additional steps you might consider.

  • Check Cartridge Compatibility: Verify that the cartridge is indeed compatible with your HP ENVY Photo 6255. Sometimes, even if the cartridge is from an Instant Ink shipment, it may be the wrong model.
  • Clean Cartridge Contacts: Remove the cartridge and gently clean the contacts on both the cartridge and the printer using a lint-free cloth or a cotton swab dipped in distilled water. Let it dry completely before reinserting.
  • Update Printer Firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve compatibility issues with cartridges.
  • Use HP Smart App: Try using the HP Smart app to troubleshoot the issue further. The app might provide additional options for resetting or troubleshooting.
  • Verify Instant Ink Account Status: Log in to your HP Instant Ink account and make sure there are no issues with your account or subscription. Sometimes problems with the account can affect cartridge recognition.
  • Try a Different Cartridge: If you have another black cartridge (or a different type of cartridge) available, try installing it to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is with the cartridge itself.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
