HP LaserJet Pro MFP M148dw

Changed toner cartridge and Printer froze up with clicking noise suggesting drums frozen. Took all cartridges out and put back individually without any change. Even tried putting in old toner cartridge. Any advice? Did the motor fail at the exact time I replaced the toner?

Hi @rickgski,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It's unlikely that the motor failed at the exact moment you replaced the toner cartridge, but it's possible that the replacement process triggered some other issue. Here's what you can try to troubleshoot the problem.

  • Power Cycle: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a few minutes, then plug it back in and turn it on. Sometimes, a simple power cycle can resolve temporary issues.
  • Check for Obstructions: Open the printer cover and check for any obstructions in the cartridge area or paper path. Make sure there are no bits of paper, packaging material, or broken parts blocking the movement of the cartridges or other components.
  • Inspect Cartridge Installation: Double-check that the toner cartridge is installed correctly. Ensure that it's securely seated in its slot and that there are no loose parts or pieces of packaging left inside the printer.
  • Reset Printer: Some printers have a reset button or a sequence of buttons you can press to reset the device to its factory settings. Refer to the printer's manual or support documentation to find out how to perform a reset.
  • Update Firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer model. Sometimes, firmware updates include bug fixes that can address issues like the one you're experiencing.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
