@Allerd, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding 79 service error!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

A 79 service error is a common indication of a firmware issue or a problem with the print job or printer network settings. Here are some suggestions you can try to resolve the 79 service error:

1. Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Disconnect the printer from the power source.
  • Wait for at least 30 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.

2. Update the Printer Firmware

Ensure the printer firmware is up to date. Follow these steps:

  • Download the latest firmware update from the HP website.
  • Install the firmware update on your printer by following the provided instructions.

3. Check the Network Settings

The error may be related to network activities. Try the following steps:

  • Disconnect the printer from the network (both wired and wireless connections if applicable).
  • Reconnect the printer to the network.
  • Ensure there are no IP address conflicts. You might want to set a manual IP address for the printer through the Embedded Web Server (EWS).

4. Clear the Print Queue

A corrupted print job could be causing the issue.

  • Cancel all print jobs from your computer.
  • Restart both your computer and printer.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
