Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a 454dw color laser printer, plugged directly into my computer via USB cable.  The communications seem extremely slow (printing a 5 page PDF file, or multiple 1 page PDF files takes several minutes, sometimes with long pauses between pages.)

I'll also get messages that printer enters an error state, and the display no longer works requiring a full shut down and turn on.

These are fairly odd errors, so I am not quite sure where to start on troubleshooting.

Start with drivers. What driver type and revision are you using. Typically we see much better performance from the HP Universal Printer drivers and they do make a USB install version of that driver. https://www8.hp.com/us/en/solutions/business-solutions/printingsolutions/upd.html
