Hi @BHHawk74,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The "supply system problem" message on your HP 7740 printer generally indicates an issue related to the ink or toner supplies, such as cartridges not being recognized, problems with the cartridge chips, or other issues with the supply system. Here’s a step-by-step approach to troubleshoot and hopefully fix this issue:

Check Cartridge Compatibility: Ensure that the ink cartridges are compatible with your HP 7740 printer. Using non-genuine or incompatible cartridges can often trigger such errors.

Reinstall Cartridges: Remove the ink cartridges from the printer and check for any protective tape or material that might still be attached. Reinsert them carefully, making sure each cartridge clicks into place.

Reset the Printer: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Wait about 60 seconds before plugging it back in and turning it on. This can reset the printer's internal memory and potentially clear the error.

Clean the Cartridge Contacts: Sometimes, dirty or smeared contacts can lead to detection issues. Use a clean, lint-free cloth to gently clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridges and in the cartridge slot.

Update Printer Firmware: Check for any available firmware updates for your HP 7740 printer. Updating the firmware can resolve issues that might be causing the error message.

Check the Ink Levels: Make sure that the ink cartridges are not empty. Replace any cartridges that are low or out of ink.

Examine the Cartridge Chips: If your printer uses cartridges with chips, make sure the chips are clean and undamaged. Damaged chips might need the cartridge to be replaced.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
