Hi @anne419,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I know how frustrating it can be when your scanner suddenly stops working, especially when you need it the most. Let's go through some simple steps to get it back up and running.

1. Restart Your Devices

  • Turn off your printer, computer, and router.
  • Unplug the printer’s power cord and wait 30 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and restart everything.

2. Check Scanner Connection

  • For USB Connection: Ensure the cable is securely plugged in. Try a different USB port or cable.
  • For Wi-Fi Connection: Ensure your printer and computer are connected to the same network.

3. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows Only)

4. Check HP Smart App

  • Open the HP Smart app and check if the scanner is detected.
  • If not, remove the printer from the app and re-add it.

5. Reinstall Printer Drivers

  • Windows:
    • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-click your printer, and select Remove device.
    • Download the latest drivers from HP Support and reinstall.
  • Mac:
    • Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners, remove the printer, then re-add it.

6. Check Scanner Settings

  • Open Windows Fax and Scan or HP Scan and see if the scanner appears.
  • If it’s not listed, reinstall the drivers.

7. Update Firmware

  • Visit HP Support to check for firmware updates for your printer model.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
