HI @tay5689,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding printer's cartridge!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

As your HP DeskJet 2542 cartridge is stuck on the right side of the printer and won’t move, try these steps:

Turn Off and Restart the Printer

Turn off the printer.
Unplug it from the power source for 60 seconds.
Plug it back in and turn it on.
Check if the cartridge moves to the center.

Manually Move the Cartridge

Open the printer cover and gently push the cartridge carriage to the center.
If it’s stuck, don’t force it—check for paper jams or obstructions.

Check for Paper Jams or Obstructions

Turn off the printer and unplug it.
Open the cartridge access door and inspect inside.
Remove any loose paper, tape, or debris.
Turn the printer back on and check if the carriage moves.

Remove & Reinsert Cartridges

Take out both black and color cartridges.
Clean the gold contact points with a dry cloth.
Reinsert the cartridges and close the cover.
Restart the printer.
