Hi @Tman17

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I'm really sorry your HP OfficeJet Pro 9730e is stuck on the “Validating” screen—that kind of freeze can feel especially frustrating when you're eager to print or scan.

Let’s walk through a few focused steps to help restore normal operation.

Steps to Fix Printer Stuck on “Validating” Screen

1. Power Reset the Printer

This clears temporary memory and resets internal signals.

  • Turn off the printer using the power button
  • Unplug the power cord from the printer and wall outlet
  • Wait 60 seconds
  • Plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors)
  • Turn the printer back on and check if the screen progresses past “Validating”

2. Disconnect Network and USB Connections

Sometimes the printer hangs while trying to validate a network or USB setup.

  • Disconnect any USB cables and Ethernet cables
  • If connected via Wi-Fi, turn off your router temporarily
  • Restart the printer and observe if it bypasses the validation screen

3. Remove and Reinsert Ink Cartridges

Improper cartridge seating can trigger validation loops.

  • Open the ink access door
  • Remove all cartridges carefully
  • Reinsert them one by one, ensuring each clicks into place
  • Close the door and restart the printer

4. Update Firmware via HP App

If the printer becomes responsive after reset, update its firmware to prevent future freezes.

  • Open the HP App on your computer or mobile device
    HP App Setup Guide
  • Select your printer > Settings > Printer Update
  • Follow prompts to install the latest firmware

If the printer remains stuck and cannot be accessed via the app, skip this step for now.

5. Reinstall the Full Software Package

This ensures your system is fully synced with the printer.

Let me know if you'd like help checking your firmware version or confirming cartridge alignment. Once these steps are complete, your printer should move past the “Validating” screen and be ready to use again.
