If your printer is showing as "offline," there are several troubleshooting steps you can take to bring it back online. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you resolve this issue:
1. Check Printer Connections
- Power: Ensure the printer is turned on and connected to a power source. Check the power cable for any loose connections.
- Network Connection:
- Wired Connection: If your printer is connected via Ethernet, make sure the cable is securely connected to both the printer and the router.
- Wireless Connection: Ensure the printer is connected to your Wi-Fi network. If it’s a wireless printer, make sure it’s within range of your router.
2. Verify Printer Status
- On Printer: Check the printer’s display or control panel for any error messages or warnings.
- Print Queue: Ensure there are no jobs stuck in the print queue. You can check this from your computer.
3. Restart Devices
- Printer: Turn off the printer, wait for about 30 seconds, and then turn it back on.
- Computer: Restart your computer to reset any network connections.
- Router: Restart your router to refresh the network connection.
4. Check Printer Settings on Computer
Windows:
- Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select your printer from the list and click Manage.
- Click Printer properties.
- Ensure Use Printer Offline is unchecked.
- If necessary, click Print Test Page to see if the printer responds.
5. Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers
Windows:
- Go to Device Manager.
- Expand Printers or Print queues.

- Ping the Printer: If you’re using a network printer, you can try pinging the printer’s IP address from your computer’s command prompt or terminal to ensure it’s reachable.
- Windows: Open Command Prompt and type ping [IP address] (e.g., ping 192.168.1.100).
- Mac: Open Terminal and type ping [IP address].
7. Reconfigure Wireless Settings
- Reconfigure Wi-Fi: If your printer is wireless, you may need to reconfigure the Wi-Fi settings. Refer to the printer’s manual for instructions on connecting to a Wi-Fi network.
- Reset Network Settings: Some printers have an option to reset network settings. Check your printer’s menu for network setup or reset options
