@chissel95, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer that is on pause!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If your HP printer is paused after replacing a non-HP cartridge and then installing a genuine HP cartridge, there are several steps you can take to try and resume normal operation.

Restart Your Printer:

  • Power off your printer.
  • Unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Check Printer Status:

  • On your computer, go to "Control Panel" and select "Devices and Printers".
  • Locate your HP printer, right-click on it, and check if there is an option to "Resume Printing". If there is, click on it.

Clear the Print Queue:

  • Right-click on your HP printer in "Devices and Printers" and select "See what's printing".
  • In the new window, select "Printer" from the top menu and choose "Cancel All Documents".
  • Close the window and try printing a test page.

Reinstall the HP Cartridge:

  • Open the printer cover and ensure that the genuine HP cartridge is properly installed.
  • Remove the cartridge and inspect it for any protective covers or packing materials that may still be attached.
  • Reinstall the cartridge ensuring it clicks firmly into place.

Update Printer Software:

  • Go to the HP Support website and download the latest drivers and firmware for your specific printer model.
  • Install the updates following the on-screen instructions.

Reset the Printer:

  • Some HP printers have a "Reset" option in the settings menu. Refer to your printer's user manual for specific instructions on how to perform a reset.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
