Hi @hndicap,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP ENVY 5660 printer keeps printing the same thing repeatedly on its own, it is typically caused by one of these issues:

1. Stuck Print Job in the Queue

  • Cause: A print job is stuck in the queue and keeps resending to the printer.
  • Solution:
    1. On your computer, go to Devices and Printers or Printers & Scanners.
    2. Locate your HP ENVY 5660 printer and open the Print Queue.
    3. Right-click on the stuck print job and select Cancel.
    4. If the job won't cancel, restart your computer and printer, then try again.

2. Print Spooler Service Issue

  • Cause: The print spooler (software that manages printing) might be stuck.
  • Solution:
    1. Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog box.
    2. Type services.msc and hit Enter.
    3. Scroll down to find Print Spooler.
    4. Right-click and choose Stop.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS and delete all files in the folder.
    6. Go back to the Services window, right-click Print Spooler, and select Start.

3. Duplicate Print Command

  • Cause: A document might have been sent multiple times or the printer received duplicate commands.
  • Solution:
    1. Check the application you’re printing from to ensure the document wasn’t queued multiple times.
    2. Restart the printer to clear its memory.

4. Firmware or Driver Issue

  • Cause: Outdated firmware or drivers can sometimes cause repetitive printing issues.
  • Solution:
    1. Update the printer firmware through the HP Smart app or the printer's control panel.
    2. Update or reinstall the printer driver:
      • Go to the HP Software and Driver Downloads page.
      • Enter your printer model and download the latest driver.

5. Wireless Printing Error

  • Cause: If the printer is connected wirelessly, it may repeatedly receive a print command due to a network communication error.
  • Solution:
    1. Disconnect the printer from the WiFi network temporarily.
    2. Restart your router and reconnect the printer.
    3. Recheck the print queue to ensure there are no jobs stuck.

6. Reset the Printer

  • Solution:
    1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
    2. Wait for 2-3 minutes.
    3. Plug it back in and turn it on.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
