My printer says: There is a problem with the printer or ink system. Turn printer off, then on. If problem persists. contact HP.

I have turned it off and unplugged it and then on again.  The error is still there. I followed the prompts online at HP support and it said, "There may be a serious issue with your printer. Contact HP."

Hi @KristaBuchman,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When your HP OfficeJet Pro 9210 displays the message "There is a problem with the printer or ink system," it usually indicates a hardware issue, possibly with the ink cartridges, printhead, or internal components. Here are steps you can follow to try to resolve this issue:

Step 1: Reset the Printer

  • Press the power button to turn off the printer.
    • Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer and the wall outlet
    • Leave the printer unplugged for at least 60 seconds
    • Reconnect the power cord to the printer and the wall outlet.
    • Press the power button to turn the printer back on.

Step 2: Check Ink Cartridges

  1. Remove and Reinstall Ink Cartridges:
    • Open the ink cartridge access door.
    • Remove each ink cartridge and then reinstall them, ensuring they are properly seated.
  2. Inspect Ink Cartridges:
    • Check the ink cartridges for any damage or leaks. If you find any damaged cartridges, replace them with new ones.
  3. Clean Ink Cartridge Contacts:
    • Use a lint-free cloth slightly moistened with distilled water to clean the electrical contacts on the ink cartridges and inside the printer where the cartridges sit.

Step 3: Clean the Printhead

  1. Remove the Printhead (if removable):
    • Open the ink cartridge access door and remove the ink cartridges.
    • If your model allows, remove the printhead assembly.
  2. Clean the Printhead:
    • Use a lint-free cloth slightly moistened with distilled water to gently clean the printhead contacts and nozzles.
    • Allow the printhead to dry completely before reinstalling.
  3. Reinstall the Printhead and Cartridges:
    • Reinstall the printhead and then the ink cartridges.
    • Close the ink cartridge access door and turn on the printer.

Step 4: Update Printer Firmware

  1. Visit the HP Support Website:
    • Go to the HP Support website and search for your printer model (HP OfficeJet Pro 9210).
  2. Download and Install Updates:
    • Download and install any available firmware updates for your printer.

Step 5: Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Factory Reset Procedure:
    • On the printer’s control panel, navigate to the settings menu.
    • Look for an option to perform a factory reset. Follow the instructions to reset the printer to its default settings.
    • Reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network or computer after the reset.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
