Hi I have been trying to print, but nothing is happening, the printer makes a noise, then nothing.

I have tried all the usual things, unplug, plug back in etc, but that didn't work.

I ran a diagnostic through the Hp Smart app on windows 11 and it said no errors but then would print a test page.

I have had this problem for over a week and can't seem to find a number to just call someone.

My printer at one stage did come up with "HP Envy 6400series [5C30BD] Check the printer for errors", but the only light that is on is the signal light, which is strong and the red X. I have tried the i button....nothing.

I have ink in the printer and the printer is only about 6 months old, was working perfectly prior to this.

Please help!

Hi @Jodie2741,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Envy 6400 series printer is not printing anything, not even a test page, even though it’s powered on and shows no clear error messages. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

a. Power Reset

With the printer powered on, disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.

Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Wait for 60 seconds.

Plug the cord directly into a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors).

Reconnect it to the printer and power it back on.

b. Check for Printer Errors

Ensure there are no blinking lights other than the wireless signal.

If a red “X” is displayed, press and hold the Cancel (X) button for 3 seconds to clear any pending error or job.

Open the ink access door and verify that both cartridges are seated firmly and no tape or obstruction is present.

c. Run an Internal Printer Test (Without the Computer)

Press and hold the Information (i) button, then press the Cancel (X) button once.

The printer should attempt to print a printer information page.

If it still doesn’t print, the issue may be with the hardware or printhead.

d. Check Print Queue

On your computer, open Control Panel → Devices and Printers.

Right-click your printer → See what’s printing.

If there are pending print jobs, right-click and choose Cancel all documents.

Restart the Print Spooler Service:

Press Windows + R, type services.msc, press Enter.

Find Print Spooler, right-click → Restart.

I hope this helps.
