Hi @etienne17,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

That message means your HP DeskJet 4220e is enrolled in HP+ or Instant Ink, and the printer cannot function unless it verifies your HP account online. Even if you log in and everything looks fine, the printer may still be stuck due to a sync issue.

How to Fix It

1. Check Internet Connection

  • On the printer, go to Settings → Network Setup → Wireless Settings.
  • Make sure it’s connected to your Wi-Fi and the signal is strong.

2. Sign Out and Sign Back In

  • On the printer: Settings → HP Account → Sign Out, then Sign In.
  • On your phone or PC: Open the HP app, log in, and confirm your printer is listed.

3. Verify HP Account Status

  • Go to the HP Instant Ink Dashboard.
  • Check for:
    • Expired subscription
    • Payment issues
    • Cartridge authentication problems

4. Update Firmware

5. Reset Printer (If All Else Fails)

  • Press and hold the Cancel + Wireless buttons together for 5–10 seconds until the printer restarts.
  • Reconnect to Wi-Fi and sign in again.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
