My printer showed my magenta cartridge as virtually empty.   I unsealed a replacement, installed it, and the new one shows as empty too.   I unplugged my printer then plugged it in, and held the off button for 15 seconds.   The cartridge still show as empty on the printer and using the utility on my Mac.

 

I don't have a receipt, as I buy cartridges ahead of time.    I have a second replacement.   Do I try replacing it at the store (Probably an Office Max)?

Please update the Printer Firmware from this Link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c02919168

 

Next follow the instructions in Step 9 from this Link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c05076934 to ensure the cartridge is well vented and seated

 

If the issue persists, try cleaning the Printhead.

  1. From the printer control panel, open the Setup  menu.

  2. Open the Printer Maintenance menu.

  3. If necessary, open the Tools menu, and then touch Clean Printhead.

  4. Examine the test page.

    • If the print quality is unacceptable, touch Clean Again to continue the next level of cleaning. If necessary, repeat these steps for the third cleaning cycle.

      NOTE: If the printhead is badly clogged, it might require another cleaning cycle. If so, wait 30 minutes before you perform all three levels of cleaning again.
