I have an HP Officejet Pro 8610. I replaced by 950 black ink with 950XL black and now the printer will not print, even just color.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8610, if replacing the black ink with a 950XL black cartridge is causing the printer not to print (even in color), here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

Check Ink Cartridge Installation:

  • Make sure the 950XL black cartridge is properly installed. Remove it and reinstall it to ensure it's seated correctly.
  • Also, check the ink contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer for any dirt or debris. Gently wipe them with a soft, lint-free cloth if necessary.

Perform a Printer Reset:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source for about 30 seconds. Then plug it back in and turn it on. This can often resolve temporary errors related to cartridge changes.

Print a Test Page:

  • Go to the printer’s control panel, and print a test page to see if there is any response. This can sometimes help reset the ink levels or resolve communication issues with the new cartridge.

Check Ink Levels:

  • Open the HP Smart app or the printer's control panel to check the ink levels. If the printer is not detecting the 950XL cartridge, it could be an issue with the cartridge itself or a communication error between the printer and the cartridge.

Check for Software Errors:

  • Make sure your printer driver is up to date. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause issues with recognizing new cartridges. You can update the driver through HP Smart or from the HP website.

Run Printer Diagnostics:

  • If the printer is still not printing, run the built-in diagnostics to check for any errors or issues. You can do this through the printer’s control panel or via the HP Smart app.

Try Printing in Color:

  • If the black cartridge is not working properly, try printing a document that requires color printing only. This will help confirm if it's an issue with the black ink or something more systemic with the printer.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, you may want to try reinstalling the original black cartridge to check if the issue persists with the 950XL, as there could be a defect with the replacement cartridge.
