I have the "printhead appears to be missing..." error and troubleshot per all the HP recommendations. All the support results point to needing a new printhead.
Question: if I buy a new printhead (CR322A), what is the warranty on the new printhead (if any) and if this does not resolve the problem with the printer, can I return the new printhead or am I out the $150?

The warranty on a replacement printhead is 90 days, not sure will you be able to return printhead because you need to open it and install ink.
https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c00206040
One-year/90-day Printheads – One-year/90-day printheads are identified by the ink cartridges that are used with them, which include the HP 564, 364, 178, 862, 920, 922, 950-959 ink cartridges. For printers using these types of printheads, the original printhead that comes with the printer is warranted for one year from the date of printer purchase. Replacement printheads are warranted for 90 days or the remainder of the applicable printer warranty, whichever is longest. Unlike other printheads, the date printed on the printhead is not the Warranty Ends date.

Yeah, this is the big dilemma; spend almost the same price as what the printer cost originally 5 years ago for a fix that may or may not solve the problem. If it doesn't solve the problem, then you're out the $156 for the new printhead as well as having to spend another $150+ for a new printer.
If only HP made this less of a risk! I'd love to be able to keep this printer out of the landfill for another few years but that's a pretty expensive gamble!
