I have no power on screen but buttons light up, no power light on power button, printer cartridges do not move when door is open.  I have powered off the printer by unplugging power cord from printer and wall and holding the power button for 30 seconds, plugged back in after 2 minutes and still the same thing.  No paper jams, but I have no power on screen but buttons light up, no power light on power button, printer cartridges do not move when door is open.

Hi @RC6519,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your printer powers on partially – the buttons light up, but the screen stays blank, the power button light is off, and the cartridges don’t move when the door is opened. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

    a. Power Reset (You’ve Already Tried – Let’s Ensure It’s Complete)
      • Unplug the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet.
      • Disconnect any USB/Ethernet cables.
      • Press and hold the Power button for 15–20 seconds to drain any residual power.
      • Plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet (not a surge protector) and reconnect to the printer. Try powering it on again.

    b. Check Power Source & Adapter
      • Make sure the outlet is working by testing another device.
      • Inspect the adapter (if detachable) for any blinking lights, unusual heat, or visible damage.

    c. Display Panel and Control Lights Test
      • If the control panel lights are on but the screen is blank, press the Home or OK button a few times to check if the screen responds.
      • Slightly tilt or adjust the display (if adjustable) to check if it’s a display backlight issue.

    d. Check for Internal Hardware Freeze
      • Open the ink cartridge access door – if the printhead does not move, it indicates the printer is stuck during startup or in a hardware error state.
      • Keep the printer on for 2–3 minutes and listen for any internal movement or error beeps.

    e. Remove and Reseat Ink Cartridges (Only If Carriage Is Accessible)
      • If the carriage becomes movable after a restart, remove each cartridge and reinsert it firmly.
      • Make sure there is no protective tape or obstruction.

I hope this helps.
