I needed to replace my (non HP) cartridge. When I installed it, I got a "non-HP chip" error on my Officejet Pro 6960. I am running Mac OS 15.1.
I have already tried restarting the printer, doing a factory reset, reinstalling the cartridge, and running HP Easy Start. I'm still getting the same error. From reading online perhaps I need to downgrade my firmware. I tried a link on another site to accomplish this, but it only works on Windows machines.
Of course this happened on a day when we really need to print a document from the internet that disappears from your browser after 10 minutes if you don't manage to get it printed. Please help!

Hi @Emm1e,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
Most recent HP printers do not allow firmware downgrade. They have built-in code that checks the version of the download and will not accept any firmware that is earlier than the current version.
You may refill your cartridges or use remanufactured cartridges, but you may run into problems. HP will not guarantee the functionality of those ink cartridges.
There are many cartridges in the market which is refilled and sometimes the chip is not configured to work with the printer. You need to contact the cartridge manufacturer and find out why its not working. Try a different cartridge supplier and check if that works.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
