office jet pro 8720 [personal info removed] will not complete printer app update. it say "the list of printer apps on this printer cannot be updated. try again later"

Let us try these steps to resolve this issue:
Reset the printer
Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.
Update the printer firmware
Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your PC.
Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.
Restart the web services on the printer
Click here to know how to turn off web services. Refer to this document to know how to turn it on.
Make sure the printer is connected to the internet.
