1. Use the HP Smart App’s Diagnose & Fix Tool
HP recommends using the HP App to automatically detect and fix scanning issues.
- Download or open the app: HP App – For HP Printers, Laptops, and Tech Accessories | HP® Official Site
- Go to Settings → Click the wrench icon (Windows) or printer dropdown (macOS)
- Select Diagnose & Fix
- Follow the on-screen instructions
2. Check Scanner Connection
If you're scanning to a computer:
- Make sure the printer is connected via USB or Wi-Fi
- Restart both the printer and the computer
- Try scanning from HP Scan, Windows Fax and Scan, or Preview (on macOS)

3. Update Drivers and Firmware
