I understand the auto duplex printing option has disappeared from your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 after a Windows 11 update, here are several steps you can try to resolve the issue:

1. Check Printer Properties

  • Open Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
  • Select your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 and click on Manage.
  • Click on Printer Properties.
  • In the Device Settings tab, look for Duplex Printing or Print on Both Sides and ensure it is enabled.

2. Update Printer Driver

  • Go to the HP Support website and download the latest driver for your printer model compatible with Windows 11.
  • Install the updated driver and restart your computer.

3. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor from the HP website. This tool can diagnose and fix common printing issues.

4. Check Printer Preferences

  • In Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners, select your printer again.
  • Click on Manage and then go to Printing Preferences.
  • Look for the option for duplex printing and ensure it is checked.

5. Check Windows Features

  • Sometimes, certain features can be affected by Windows updates. Go to Control Panel > Programs > Turn Windows features on or off and ensure all relevant printer features are enabled.

6. Reinstall Printer using Windows Update

  • In the Printers & Scanners section, click on Add a printer or scanner.
  • Windows will search for available printers. If your printer appears, select it and allow Windows to install the driver automatically.

7. Check for Windows Updates

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update and check if there are any pending updates that could address compatibility issues.

8. Reset the Printing System

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
  • Remove your printer.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Re-add your printer to see if the duplex option returns.
