@fbregar, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If the output tray extender on your HP ENVY 4524 All-in-One Printer does not open when a sheet of paper comes out, you can try the following troubleshooting steps:

Check for Paper Jams or Obstructions:

  • Ensure there are no obstructions or paper jams in the output tray area.
  • Open the paper tray and inspect the area carefully for any pieces of paper or debris that might be blocking the extender.

Reset the Printer:

  • Sometimes, a simple reset can resolve mechanical issues. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Check the Output Tray Extender Mechanism:

  • Open and close the output tray extender manually to ensure that it is not stuck or jammed.
  • Make sure the extender is properly aligned and moves freely without obstructions.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Ensure the printer firmware is updated. Firmware updates can sometimes fix hardware issues.
  • Visit the HP Support website to download and install the latest firmware for your printer model.

Perform a Printer Maintenance:

  • Access the maintenance menu from the printer control panel.
  • Perform a self-test or print a test page to check if the problem persists.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
