Hi @ed357,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

That error 0xc19a0023 is a classic HP ink system error and usually means the printer cannot communicate with the printhead. It often appears after changing cartridges because the printhead or its electrical contacts are misaligned, dirty, or the ink system is clogged.

Step 1: Power Reset

  1. With the printer ON, unplug the power cord.
  2. Wait 60 seconds, then plug it back in directly to a wall outlet.
  3. Turn the printer back on.

Step 2: Reseat Cartridges

  • Remove all cartridges.
  • Check for:
    • Protective tape still on the cartridge (remove if present).
    • Ink buildup or debris on contacts.
  • Reinsert cartridges firmly.

Step 3: Clean Electrical Contacts

  • Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  • Clean:
    • Gold contacts on the cartridges.
    • Contacts inside the printhead carriage.
  • Let dry for 5 minutes, then reinstall.

Step 4: Remove and Reseat Printhead

If your printer has a removable printhead:

  1. Open the ink access door.
  2. Lift the latch and remove the printhead.
  3. Clean the contacts gently and reseat it. 👉 How to Clean Printhead: Step-by-Step Guide for Better Print Quality

Step 5: Update Firmware

  • Go to HP’s official page for your printer model: 👉 Official HP® Support
  • Install the latest firmware update.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
