I recently began getting the error that my printhead was missing or incorrectly installed.  After reseating and trying all the power resets, etc., I now get "problem with printer or ink system" error when I power up the printer.  I have read about firmware updates causing related problems.  Is there a way that i can revert the firmware version in this Officejet Pro 8600 Premium printer?  the current version is 1545AR.  Any advice appreciated.

Welcome to the HP Forums. I would be happy to help you with your HP Officejet Pro 8600 Printer. I understand that you are getting print head incorrectly installed error and you have already done some preliminary troubleshooting.

Don't worry though as I have a few steps to determine the issue and find a solution as well,

Reset the printer.

  1. Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.

  2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.

  3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

  4. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

  5. Wait at least 60 seconds.

  6. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.

  7. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

  8. Turn on the printer.

Remove the ink cartridges.

Clean the ink cartridges, and then check the error message.

Remove and inspect the printhead.

Reseat the printhead up to three times.

Click here and refer the document to perform the above steps.

Let me know how it goes.

Cheers.
