Hi @duvawendy,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Officejet Pro 8610 displaying a "Problem with Printer or Ink System" error, it can be due to various reasons, such as cartridge issues, printhead problems, or firmware glitches.
Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot the issue:
1. Reset the Printer
- Turn the printer on.
- While it is powered on, disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Wait for 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the outlet and the printer.
- Turn the printer on and check if the error persists.
2. Check and Reseat Ink Cartridges
- Open the ink cartridge access door.
- Remove the ink cartridges and inspect them for any damage or ink leakage.
- Reinsert the cartridges firmly into their slots.
- Close the access door and check if the error is resolved.
3. Clean the Ink Cartridges and Printhead
- Use a clean, lint-free cloth to gently clean the copper-colored contacts on the ink cartridges and the corresponding contacts inside the printer.
- You can also try cleaning the printhead by using the printer’s clean printhead tool (found under printer maintenance settings).
4. Replace the Problematic Ink Cartridge
- If you see a specific ink cartridge error, try replacing the indicated cartridge with a new, genuine HP cartridge.
5. Check the Printhead
- If you've recently replaced cartridges, the issue might be with the printhead. You can try removing and cleaning it. Follow these steps:
- Turn on the printer and open the ink cartridge access door.
- Remove all ink cartridges.
- Lift the latch on the printhead assembly and remove the printhead.
- Gently clean the printhead contacts with a lint-free cloth.
- Reinsert the printhead and secure it in place.
6. Update Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Outdated firmware may also cause these kinds of errors. Check HP’s website for any firmware updates for your printer model and install them if available.
7. Hard Reset
- If none of the above works, try performing a factory reset on your printer. You can find this option in the printer's settings menu under Restore Factory Defaults. Keep in mind that this will reset all settings to their default state.
8. Replace the Printhead
- If the problem persists, the printhead may be faulty and need replacement.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
