Hi @jawol,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

We understand how frustrating it is when your HP LaserJet printer remains stuck on “We are checking your printer cartridge, please wait” after replacing the cartridge, especially when you need to print urgently.

Steps to Fix the Issue

1. Check Cartridge Type

  • Ensure you are using standard HP cartridges, not Instant Ink cartridges.
  • Instant Ink cartridges will not work after subscription cancellation.

2. Reconnect Printer to Internet Temporarily

  • Even if you plan to use the printer offline later, reconnect it to Wi-Fi or Ethernet so it can validate the new cartridge.
  • Use the HP app to confirm connectivity.

3. Restart Printer and HP App

  • Power off the printer, wait 60 seconds, then power it back on.
  • Restart the HP app and check for any prompts.

4. Update Printer Firmware

  • Go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Update Printer on the printer control panel or via HP Smart.
  • Or download the latest firmware from HP:
    👉 Official HP® Support

5. Reset Printer

  • On the printer control panel, navigate to Settings > Restore Defaults.
  • This clears any stuck validation state.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
