@Bobdep, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If your HP OfficeJet 4630 e-All-in-One printer is able to print in color but not in black, even after installing a new ink cartridge, you can follow the troubleshooting steps below:

1. Make Sure the Cartridges are Properly Installed

  • Ensure that the black cartridge is properly installed in its slot. Remove and reinsert it to confirm it's seated correctly.

2. Check Ink Levels

  • From the Home screen on the printer display, select Ink Levels, and then press OK. This will display the current ink levels.
  • Alternatively, you can check the ink levels through the printer software on your computer.

3. Perform a Cartridge Alignment

  • Load plain white paper into the paper tray.
  • From the Home screen, go to Tools and select Align Printer. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the alignment process.

4. Clean the Printhead

  • Cleaning the printhead might resolve clogging issues that prevent black ink from printing.
  • Use the printer software or the printer display:
    • Go to Tools and select Clean Printhead.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions.

5. Print a Diagnostics Page

  • Load plain paper, then use the printer display to print a Print Quality Report via Tools.
  • Review the diagnostics page; if you notice missing black ink, a deeper cleaning might be necessary.
