Model HP OFFICEJET PRO 6968

HP Recommended

Hi @Bestefar53,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are getting the "filter failed" error on an HP OfficeJet Pro 6968 printer that typically occurs when trying to print from a Mac. This issue often relates to outdated or incompatible printer drivers or software settings. Here are steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Update Printer Drivers

Ensure you have the latest drivers for your HP OfficeJet Pro 6968.

  • Go to the HP Customer Support website.
  • Search for your printer model and download the latest driver package for macOS.
If your macOS version is recent, download the HP Easy Start app for driver installation.

2. Reset the Printing System

Resetting the printing system can resolve driver-related issues.

  1. Open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  2. Right-click (or Control-click) on the printer list and select Reset Printing System.
  3. Confirm and re-add your printer:
    • Click the + button to add the printer.
    • Select your printer from the list. Ensure it uses the HP driver (not AirPrint).

3. Use AirPrint as a Temporary Workaround

If the HP driver doesn't work or isn't available:

  1. Add the printer using AirPrint:
    • Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners > + > Add Printer.
    • Select the printer and choose AirPrint under "Use."

4. Reinstall HP Smart

The HP Smart app includes printer drivers and additional tools.

  1. Download HP Smart from the Mac App Store.
  2. Launch the app and follow the instructions to set up your printer.

5. Check for macOS Updates

Ensure your Mac is running the latest version of macOS.

  • Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Software Update.

6. Test with a Different File or App

The issue could be specific to the file or app you're printing from.

  • Try printing a simple text document using TextEdit or Preview.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
