Hi @kdthomas1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're encountering an error related to toner and lid on your HP printer, here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot the issue.

  • Check Toner Cartridge: Ensure that the toner cartridge is properly installed and seated in the printer. Sometimes, cartridges can become loose during transportation or installation.
  • Replace Toner Cartridge: If the toner cartridge is old or low on toner, replacing it with a new one might resolve the issue. Make sure you use a genuine HP toner cartridge for optimal performance and compatibility.
  • Clean Toner Contacts: Sometimes, dust or debris can accumulate on the contacts of the toner cartridge or inside the printer. Use a clean, dry cloth to gently wipe the contacts on both the cartridge and inside the printer.
  • Check Lid: Ensure that the printer lid is closed securely. Some printers have sensors that detect if the lid is open, and an error message may appear if the lid is not closed properly.
  • Restart Printer: Turn off the printer, disconnect it from the power source, and wait for a few minutes. Then, reconnect the power cord and turn the printer back on. This can sometimes clear temporary errors.
  • Update Printer Firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer model on the HP website. Updating the firmware can sometimes fix bugs or issues that cause error messages.
  • Reset Printer: Some HP printers have a reset option in the settings menu. Refer to your printer's user manual for instructions on how to perform a reset. Be aware that resetting the printer will erase some settings, so you may need to set them up again after the reset.

By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and resolve the toner and lid error on your HP printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
