@topprops, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The "Problem with the printer or ink system" error on the HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus (N911g) usually arises from issues related to the cartridges, the printhead, or internal system malfunctions. Given that this error occurred after replacing the cyan cartridge, it is likely connected to that cartridge or the printhead itself.
Troubleshooting Steps:
Remove and Reseat the Cyan Cartridge
- Power off the printer and disconnect it from the power source.
- Open the ink cartridge access door and take out the cyan cartridge.
- Check the cartridge for any leaks, damage, or any protective tape that may not have been removed.
- Reinsert the cartridge securely into its slot.
- Close the access door, reconnect the printer, and turn it back on.
Test with an Old or Different Cartridge
- If you still have the previous cyan cartridge, try inserting it to see if the error resolves.
- If possible, use a genuine HP cartridge instead of third-party or refilled options.
Inspect the Printhead
- Remove all cartridges and examine the printhead contacts for any ink buildup or debris.
- If dirty, carefully clean the printhead contacts with a lint-free cloth slightly moistened with distilled water.
- Allow the printhead to dry, reinsert the cartridges, and restart the printer.
Perform a Hard Reset
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the wall outlet.
- Wait for 5-10 minutes to allow the internal components to reset.
- Plug it back in and power it on.
Clean the Printhead (if accessible)
- If the error continues, you may need to initiate a printhead cleaning cycle through the printer’s settings.
- Alternatively, if your printhead is removable, you can clean it manually under warm water to eliminate clogs.
Update the Firmware
- If possible, check for firmware updates using HP Smart or HP Support Assistant.
- Install any available updates and restart the printer.
Consider Replacing the Printhead
- If none of the previous steps resolve the issue, the printhead may be defective or excessively clogged.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
