HP OfficeJet Pro 6968 All-in-One Printer

The failure code states "paper jam" but in reality the cartridge mechanism seems stuck to the right. Any ideas?

Hi @WitsEnd24,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the error code 0x6100004a on an HP OfficeJet Pro 6968 All-In-One Printer is commonly associated with a carriage jam, which might be why you see a "paper jam" error message even though the issue is with the cartridge mechanism.

Here are some steps you can follow to resolve the issue:

Step-by-Step Troubleshooting

Power Cycle the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord and turn the printer back on.
  • Check if the error persists.

Clear Any Paper Jams

  • Open the printer’s access door and remove any paper that might be jammed inside.
  • Check both the input and output trays for any obstructions.

Check the Cartridge Mechanism

  • With the printer turned off, manually move the carriage (the part that holds the ink cartridges) to the left side of the printer.
  • Make sure there are no obstructions or debris in the path of the carriage.

Reinstall the Ink Cartridges

  • Open the cartridge access door.
  • Remove the ink cartridges.
  • Inspect them for any damage or obstructions.
  • Reinsert the cartridges securely.

Reset the Printer

  • With the printer on, disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
  • Disconnect the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the wall outlet and then to the printer.
  • Turn the printer back on.

Update Printer Firmware

Clean the Printhead and Carriage Path

  • Using a lint-free cloth, gently clean the printhead and the carriage path to ensure there are no obstructions or ink build-up.
