Hi @WitsEnd24,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand the error code 0x6100004a on an HP OfficeJet Pro 6968 All-In-One Printer is commonly associated with a carriage jam, which might be why you see a "paper jam" error message even though the issue is with the cartridge mechanism.
Here are some steps you can follow to resolve the issue:
Step-by-Step Troubleshooting
Power Cycle the Printer
- Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord.
- Wait for at least 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord and turn the printer back on.
- Check if the error persists.
Clear Any Paper Jams
- Open the printer’s access door and remove any paper that might be jammed inside.
- Check both the input and output trays for any obstructions.
Check the Cartridge Mechanism
- With the printer turned off, manually move the carriage (the part that holds the ink cartridges) to the left side of the printer.
- Make sure there are no obstructions or debris in the path of the carriage.
Reinstall the Ink Cartridges
- Open the cartridge access door.
- Remove the ink cartridges.
- Inspect them for any damage or obstructions.
- Reinsert the cartridges securely.
Reset the Printer
- With the printer on, disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
- Disconnect the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Wait for at least 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord to the wall outlet and then to the printer.
- Turn the printer back on.
Update Printer Firmware
- Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. You can check for updates on the HP website or using the HP Smart app. Update the firmware on an HP printer
Clean the Printhead and Carriage Path
- Using a lint-free cloth, gently clean the printhead and the carriage path to ensure there are no obstructions or ink build-up.
