Hi @Moferdon,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

For your HP OfficeJet Pro 8968, a "printer failure" error can often indicate a hardware issue or a problem with the printer's firmware. Here are some troubleshooting steps to try.

Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from both the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Wait 60 seconds before plugging the printer back in.
  • Turn it on and check if the error is resolved.

Check for Obstructions

  • Open the printer to check for any paper jams, debris, or foreign objects inside the paper path or ink cartridge area. Clear anything you find.

Check the Cartridges

  • Open the printer and check that the ink cartridges are properly seated.
  • Remove and reinsert each cartridge to ensure proper connection.

Update Printer Firmware

  • Check for any available firmware updates for your printer.
  • Go to the HP Support website, find your printer model, and download the latest firmware.

Check for Network or USB Issues

  • If connected via USB, try using a different USB port or cable.
  • If connected via WiFi, restart your router and reconnect the printer.

Factory Reset

If none of the above steps work, try a factory reset:

  • Go to Settings on the printer’s control panel.
  • Navigate to Restore Settings or Restore Factory Defaults (this will vary by model).
  • Follow the prompts to reset the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
