HI @LindaB18,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're encountering a "printer failure" error message on your HP printer even after cleaning the print head, here are some additional steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

1. Restart the Printer

  1. Power Off and On: Turn off the printer completely by unplugging it from the power source. Wait for about 1-2 minutes, then plug it back in and power it on. This can reset the printer and clear temporary errors.

2. Check for Paper Jams or Obstructions

  1. Inspect Paper Path: Open the printer’s access panels and check for any paper jams or obstructions along the paper path. Clear any jams carefully to ensure smooth operation.

3. Update Printer Firmware

  1. Visit HP Support: Go to the HP Support website and enter your printer model. Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer. Download and install the updates following the provided instructions.

4. Reset the Printer

  1. Factory Reset: Perform a factory reset on the printer to restore it to its default settings. Refer to your printer’s manual or HP Support website for instructions specific to your model.

5. Check Ink or Toner Levels

  1. Low Ink or Toner: Ensure that the ink or toner cartridges are not low or empty. Replace any cartridges that are low to see if this resolves the error message.

6. Run Printer Diagnostics

  1. HP Print and Scan Doctor: Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor utility from the HP Support website. This tool can diagnose and automatically resolve many printer issues.

7. Inspect Print Head and Cartridges

Clean Print Head: If you haven’t already, clean the print head again following the printer’s manual or HP’s recommendations. Use a lint-free cloth or paper towel and distilled water if necessary.

Inspect for Damage: Check the print head and cartridges for any visible damage or signs of wear. If there are physical issues, such as damaged components, the printer may require service.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
