@docmoo, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer being stuck at validating!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If your HP printer is stuck on "Validating" after installing a new ink cartridge, try these troubleshooting steps:

Restart the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 2-3 minutes and then plug it back in.
  • Turn it on and check if the issue is resolved.

Reinsert the Ink Cartridges

  • Open the printer cover and remove the ink cartridges.
  • Make sure the protective tape on the new cartridge is fully removed.
  • Reinsert the cartridges securely into their slots.

Check for Firmware Updates

  • Go to HP’s official website and check if there’s a firmware update available for your printer.
  • Install the update following HP’s instructions.

Reset the Printer

  • With the printer turned on, unplug the power cable.
  • Wait for 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.

Use Genuine HP Cartridges

  • If you’re using third-party ink cartridges, they might not be recognized correctly. Try using genuine HP cartridges.

Clean the Cartridge Contacts

  • Turn off the printer and remove the cartridge.
  • Gently wipe the copper-colored contacts with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  • Let it dry for a few minutes and reinstall the cartridge.

Let me know if this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
