HP DeskJet 4122e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi, I bought my instant ink (offer) printer in 2022.  I can print a page/job then when I want to print some else a few days later I get a printer error and 4 lights flash - paper, information, inks and power, error code appears to be E

Pressing any of the flashing buttons doesn't clear it. But if I turn the printer off and on a few minutes later, it seems to clear it.

Any ideas why this is constantly happening? Or is HP's way of get me to have a new printer?

Hi @caroline129,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

You mentioned that your Instant Ink printer bought in 2022 prints successfully the first time, but a few days later shows a printer error with 4 flashing lights (paper, information, inks, and power) and error code “E”. The error is only cleared after turning the printer off and on.

Power Cycle the Printer

Turn off the printer, unplug it for at least 60 seconds, then plug it back in and power it on.

This helps reset any temporary errors in the system.

Check for Firmware Updates

Open the HP Smart app or visit HP Support to check for printer firmware updates.

Updated firmware often fixes recurring errors.

Inspect Paper and Ink Cartridges

Ensure paper is properly loaded and free from jams.

Check ink cartridges are installed correctly and have sufficient ink.

Factory Reset (Optional)

If the error persists, perform a factory reset on the printer following HP instructions, then re-add it to your network.

I hope this helps.
