My father in law has a HP 4100 AIO printer that his deceased girlfriend had setup HP instant ink.  Since she has passed, he has not utilized the Instant Ink program. His printer will not allow him to print. How can he reset the printer to disconnect from the Instant Ink program where he can print again?

I do not have an instant ink printer. My understanding is that if you run out of ink, or you cancel your subscription, you can use genuine Hewlett Packard cartridges either original or refilled. They must have an HP chip in the cartridge.
The below type is unlikely to work.

Thank you for your response.  The ink isn't the issue.  It appears that the HP Instant Ink program has him locked it.  It is requesting a password to print to the printer.  When he called HP about it, they told him that he needs to pay $50 to continue printing.
