Hi @renwick2,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are getting the "Error 30 - Printer Not Activated" message you're encountering when trying to print a label from Amazon typically relates to software issues, such as incorrect printer settings, driver problems, or a conflict between the software and the printer.
Here are a few steps you can follow to troubleshoot this issue:
1. Set Your HP OfficeJet 3830 as the Default Printer
- Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Locate your HP OfficeJet 3830, right-click on it, and select Set as Default Printer.
- Try printing the label again.
2. Reinstall or Update the Printer Driver
- Go to HP's website and download the latest drivers for your HP OfficeJet 3830.
- Uninstall the current printer driver:
- Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-click on your printer, and select Remove device.
- Reinstall the driver using the file you downloaded and follow the installation process.
3. Check Amazon Print Settings
- Ensure that your printer is selected correctly in Amazon's print dialogue.
- When printing the label from Amazon, double-check that your HP OfficeJet 3830 is selected and not a virtual printer (such as a PDF printer).
4. Disable Virtual Printers
Sometimes, virtual printers (like Microsoft XPS Document Writer or OneNote) interfere with printing. To avoid this:
- Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Right-click on any virtual printer (e.g., Microsoft XPS Document Writer) and select Remove device or Disable.
5. Try Another Browser or Clear Browser Cache
- If the issue is with printing from the web, try using a different browser (like Chrome, Firefox, or Edge).
- Clearing the cache in your current browser might also help resolve any website-related issues.
6. Check for Software Conflicts
Sometimes, security software or other programs can block printing functions. Try temporarily disabling any third-party antivirus or firewall software and see if that resolves the issue.
The "Printer Not Activated, Error Code 30" message typically occurs when there's a problem with the printer's driver or settings, preventing the printer from being activated for use.
