HP Inkjet 4100 sounds as if printing but there is no ink on the page. I have cleaned print heads.

Hi @Leigh51,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP DeskJet Plus 4100 series printer. It goes through the motions of printing but produces blank pages, and you’ve already cleaned the printheads, here are some additional troubleshooting steps you can try:

1. Check Ink Levels

  • Ensure that both the black and color ink cartridges are installed and have sufficient ink.
  • Open the HP Smart app or your printer software to check ink levels.

2. Perform a Printer Alignment

  • Load plain white paper into the input tray.
  • Use the HP Smart app or the printer software on your computer to perform an alignment. This helps recalibrate the cartridges.

3. Clean the Printheads Again

  • Sometimes, multiple cleaning cycles are needed if the ink nozzles are clogged.
  • In the HP Smart app or printer software:
    • Go to Printer Maintenance.
    • Select Clean Printhead and follow the prompts.

4. Inspect and Reseat the Cartridges

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Open the cartridge access door and remove the cartridges.
  • Inspect for damage, leaks, or dried ink on the contacts. Gently clean the contacts with a lint-free cloth and distilled water.
  • Reinstall the cartridges firmly and close the access door

5. Check Cartridge Authenticity

  • Verify that you are using genuine HP ink cartridges. Non-genuine cartridges or refilled ones may not work correctly or could lead to this issue.

6. Print a Test Page

  • Use the printer control panel or software to print a test page.
  • This helps determine if the issue is with the printer or the printing process from your device.

7. Update the Printer FirmwareUpdate the firmware on an HP printer

  • Outdated firmware can cause printing issues.
  • Check for updates via the HP Smart app or HP's support website.

8. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source for at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in, turn it on, and try printing again.

9. Advanced Diagnostics

  • If the issue persists, perform a Print Quality Diagnostic from the printer’s menu or software.
  • This will provide more detailed information about potential hardware issues.

10. Replace the Cartridges

  • If all else fails, one or both cartridges may be defective or depleted. Replace them with new, genuine HP cartridges.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
