Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My HP Envy Photo 7858 printer stay freeze at the starting cycle, it does not advance to finish ,I unplugged several times to restart it and all times stay locked at the beginning of the starting cycle.

The printer was working fine when i needed to change the paper from Letter to Legal size ,so i opened  the paper try and load the legal size paper, close the try and there the display shows the initiating cycle but get stacked and not advancing to the finish , so the command buttons are not lighted ,on the display only the HP Logo ,the advance bar and the first small cycle is colored in blue ,the remaining 6 small circles that indicates the full initiating cycle  are not colored in blue .

I also reviewed no paper jammed was inside the printer.

I was using this printer for the past 6 years whit  any problem until today, I know the printer have no economic value but I love it how it worked for all this years and feel it may have not a big issue to returned to a normal working stage.

Hi @ABTX61,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Envy Photo 7858 is stuck in its initialization cycle. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue.

Power Reset:

  • Unplug the printer while it is powered on.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds.
  • Plug the printer back in and power it on.

Check for Obstructions:

  • Ensure there are no obstructions or bits of paper stuck inside the printer, especially around the paper tray and rollers.

Hard Reset:

  • Unplug the printer.
  • Press and hold the power button for at least 30 seconds.
  • Release the power button, plug the printer back in, and turn it on.

Reset the Paper Tray:

  • Remove the paper tray and inspect it for any misalignment or obstructions.
  • Reinsert the paper tray firmly to ensure it is properly seated.

Firmware Update:

  • If you can get the printer to start, check for any available firmware updates via the HP Smart app or the printer's software on your computer.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, it might be time to consider replacing the printer given its age and the possibility of internal hardware failure.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
