Hi @hopperp,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are getting the error code 0x6100004a on your HP OfficeJet Pro 6975 printer, combined with messages about being turned off incorrectly and a paper jam, can be indicative of a few potential issues.

Here are some steps you can follow to try to resolve these problems:

1. Reset the Printer

  1. Turn off the printer: Press the Power button to turn off the printer.
  2. Disconnect the power cord: Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer and from the wall outlet.
  3. Wait for 60 seconds: Leave the printer off for at least one minute.
  4. Reconnect the power cord: Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and then into the printer.
  5. Turn on the printer: Press the Power button to turn on the printer.

2. Clear Paper Jam

  1. Open the printer: Access the printer’s paper path by opening the front cover, and also check the rear if it has a rear access door.
  2. Remove any paper: Carefully remove any jammed paper from the printer. Ensure no pieces are left inside.
  3. Check for obstructions: Look for and remove any foreign objects or debris inside the printer.
  4. Close the printer: Once all jams and obstructions are cleared, close all covers and doors securely.

3. Clean the Print Head

  1. Access the print head: Open the front cover and allow the print head carriage to move to the center.
  2. Remove the cartridges: Take out the ink cartridges from the print head.
  3. Clean the print head contacts: Use a clean, lint-free cloth slightly moistened with distilled water to gently clean the electrical contacts on the print head and the ink cartridges.
  4. Reinstall the cartridges: Reinsert the ink cartridges back into their respective slots.
  5. Close the cover: Close the printer cover and turn the printer on if it’s not already on.

4. Firmware Update Update the firmware on an HP printer

  1. Check for updates: Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date. Visit the HP support website, enter your printer model, and look for any available firmware updates.
  2. Install the update: Follow the instructions provided by HP to download and install the firmware update.

5. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor HP Print and Scan Doctor

  1. Download the tool: Visit the HP support page and download the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool.
  2. Run the tool: Open the tool and follow the on-screen instructions to diagnose and fix the issue.

6. Factory Reset

  1. Access the printer's settings: Navigate to the settings menu on the printer’s control panel.
  2. Find the reset option: Look for an option to reset to factory settings.
  3. Perform the reset: Follow the prompts to reset the printer to its default settings. Note that this will remove any custom settings you’ve configured.
