Hi @bill794,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
I understand your HP 4100 series printer is showing a blinking error light and will not print. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.
Check for Paper Issues
Make sure paper is loaded correctly in the tray.
Remove any jammed or misfed sheets and reload fresh paper.
Inspect Ink Cartridges
Open the cartridge access door and reseat both cartridges firmly.
If one is low or not recognized, the printer may blink and refuse to print.
Clear Print Queue
On your computer, cancel all pending print jobs.
Try sending a simple test page again.
Run a Printer Reset
Power off the printer and unplug the power cord for 60 seconds.
Plug it back in and restart to clear temporary errors.
Check Wireless or USB Connection
If using Wi‑Fi, confirm the printer and computer are on the same network.
If using USB, unplug and reconnect the cable securely.
Update Printer Firmware and Drivers
Use the HP Smart app or HP’s support site to install the latest updates.
Outdated software can cause blinking error lights and blocked printing.
Print a Test Page from Control Panel
Use the printer’s buttons or menu to print a test page directly.
If this fails, the issue is with the printer hardware rather than the computer.
I hope this helps.
