I had to dig my old printer out of the closet. It's an HP deskjet 5150. I had a terrible time finding drivers for it. It's installed now and shows up in the printer list in control panel. When I tell it to print a document it doesn't do any thing. When I try to find out the ink levels there is no way to do that. I've tried to install HP smart on my computer but it can't find the printer. So my computer shows the printer is there but can't find the printer . Real smart HP.  It won't even print a test page.  There's not tab anywhere that says "services" of ink level.

Hi @JBH1964,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

Since the printer was not used for some time, the inks might have dried.

What is the current OS you are using?

Meanwhile, Let's try power reset.

  1. Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
  2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
  3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  4. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  5. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  6. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
NOTE: HP Recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet
  7. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  8. Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  9. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Check the Connections: Ensure that the printer is properly connected to your computer via a USB cable or connected to your network if it's a network printer.

Check for Paper Jams: Open the printer cover and check for any paper jams. Remove any jammed paper carefully.

Check Ink Cartridges: Make sure that the ink cartridges are properly installed and have ink. Replace any empty cartridges if necessary.

Restart the Printer: Turn off the printer, wait for a few seconds, and then turn it back on. Sometimes, a simple restart can fix the issue.

Check Print Queue: Open the print queue on your computer to see if there are any pending print jobs. Cancel any stuck print jobs and try printing again.

Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers/firmware: Ensure that you have the latest printer drivers installed. You can download the drivers from the HP website.

Check Printer Settings: Make sure that the printer is set as the default printer on your computer and that it is not set to offline mode.

! Keep me posted for further assistance.
